INTRODUCTION
BUILDING ILLUSIONS is a beginner's guide to cognitive and linguistic sciences. I have used advertising for the basis of this guide because everyone is exposed to advertising at one level or another – either as a consumer or as a producer. In advertising can be found the most blatant uses of the principles discussed in this guide.
Understanding and applying these principles is made easier when depicted in a means that we can actually see what is going on.
For the general masses, relating the principles to advertising allow them to see exactly how easily savvy advertisers can sway them. For the beginning advertiser, the principles are “must know” information when creating literature of any kind that will be distributed to potential clients and customers.
Once you know how these principles can be applied, you can bring more of
conscious volition into your thought processes when creating or assimilating ideas and making decisions.
With that said –
let’s get down to buisiness.
Simply put, the advertiser has one purpose and that is to make sales. It's not legal to force a person to buy your product, but there is nothing illegal about building illusions. The expert advertiser knows how to build the illusion that their product is an
integral and necessary part of their target audience's ideal lifestyle.
