About this guide
 
I am Barbara Riedel, living as a digital nomad since 2014. Being a travel blogger made me move a lot in the last years, always searching for places to work, information about internet (Wi-Fi or mobile) and so on. That’s why I started the new category on my blog,
Barbaralicious
, called “digital nomad destinations”. The blog posts contain general information for digital nomads that enable them to have a smooth start in a new country.
After a while, I thought that something more detailed would be nice. I wrote my first Digital Nomads Guide about my second home town – Palermo. I chose Tarifa for my second guide after staying there for a month in October and November of 2016.
Tarifa is a perfect place for digital nomads who want to get in touch with the community, who want to connect to other digital nomads and don’t want to start on their nomad journey alone. It’s a perfect place for business networking and leisure time. Since Tarifa is Europe’s no. 1 hotspot for kitesurfing, the nomads you will find here do mostly have a passion for this watersport.

Facts about Tarifa
Tarifa is located close to the Strait of Gibraltar on the southernmost coast of Spain, the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). It’s the southernmost place of Continental Europe.
Thanks to coins that have been found in the area, we know today almost for sure that Tarifa was the site of the Roman settlement of Mellaria. The present name of Tarifa was given to the city after the attack of a Berber military commander called Tarif Ibn Malik in 710.
